The Digital Canvas

Emphastic is a portfolio site, thus named in honor of emphatic + fantastic design; it features a variety of areas in which I dabble: Creative Writing. Code. Photography. Poetry. Logo and Graphic Design. Textures are part of the mosaic. Woven into the mosaic is my story.

I used to think there was something wrong with me. I spent the first part of my post-University years hating myself, feeling like "the most stupid person on the planet" for not being employed to my capacity by society's standard. Why was I, an MBA, one of the only ones of my peers to not have a shiny new job offer upon graduation? Why couldn't I bring myself to go tooth-and-nail after those jobs, to go wear a suit and fully utilize my education in the way that it had been intended? Was it because I continually choose to pull ideas from one field into another, to question efficiencies of the standard modus operandi? Was it because I wasn't shy about admitting when I don't know something, but that I'm always happy to learn?

Society likes to mold people to fit into a single neat, typewritten black and white page. Society likes keywords, personal statements, clear, articulated objectives and career goals; strangely, these are all things my MBA should have prepared me to provide. Society likes the resumes on watermarked paper and the checklists and the job descriptions. It likes the suits and ties and the 8-5. Society likes formalities and interviews. I'm not a fan of formalities and I especially loathe interviews! I believe that when it comes to the digital domain, a person can demonstrate competence without speaking a word.

The standard mold of society's formality is one I've tried repeatedly to fit into, but that mold wasn't made for people like me. I am an ideas person. I'm more creative than business, but I know business. I'm more of a writer than a programmer, but I know code. I live to communicate via the digital domain; it is my canvas.

The digital canvas is unlike any medium that any "artist" has had before. It is interactive, it evolves, it is efficient, and portable. It is adaptable. Yes, I'm human; I have a personal side, and I have a professional side. This site is the "catch all" for my digital creative and designer side, the place for such ideas to breathe.
